Camilla Bywater fundraising for Breast Cancer Ireland in Run 100K in October

Running in the rain? I think I shall. Well at least, I’ll galavant. Maybe skip a little. Certainly walk. Possibly hop. Occasionally shuffle…

I’m 50 this month. Seems impossible. I’m sure I’m only 26. I’ve had 26 candles on my cake since the day I turned 26 so that’s proof.

Anyway, by some god given miracle, I’m still here so I thought I’d better bloody celebrate life by doing something good. It’s been a bit of a health roller-coaster these last few years with various vestibular and other issues, as well as (and my apologies to those I haven’t had the chance to tell yet), an almost two-year battle with breast cancer.

Cancer doesn’t just end when the treatment stops. That’s the hard part. You look fine, everyone expects you to just carry on, but you no longer recognise yourself, and (if you lose your hair like me), no one else recognises you either. The meds continue and you don’t sleep. The chemo side effects continue and neuropathy (permanent nerve damage) sets into your hands and feet.

My purpose, of course, is to try to support this wonderful breast cancer charity. This is an illness one in seven women you know will have to face into during their lifetimes. I am going to request that the focus of my fundraising be put specifically into the very under-researched area of chemo-related neuropathy. As a musician and for all the creatives and practical souls out there who work with their hands or for those who rely on their feet because they have a standing job or simply because they love to run, walk, climb and would like to do that without pain forever… this fundraiser is for you.

So…Thank you, thank you for visiting my page and digging into your pockets. Your support is amazing. If you can help me to promote this page by sharing it on your socials, I would also greatly appreciate it. Thanks again!

PS… if you’d like to join me to walk or run 2-10km any day this month… hit me up, I’d love the company. 💖🏃‍♀️

Twinge of neuropathy today so a shorter jaunt to a fantastic contemporary pop art exhibition. Loved this pic which particularly captured the fatigue of illness for me. We 4get that behind the smiles many people amongst us are disguising this feeling.

Stops and starts today but I’m not complaining as I’m lucky enough to be with friends in Paris, visiting my godmother who’s kind enough to put us up. Lovely walks to the Irish Cultural Centre & around Luxembourg Gardens today. ❤️🤍💙

Toughest week by far… Reserve tank on empty after my birthday, so it’s taken a few days to find the energy to go again. Luckily the low autumnal light lured me out this morning for a long stretch across the Kinsale hills… ⛵️⚓️🌤️🌊🌅
